Job fair March 8 for Active Duty Military and Vets

From the Orange County Register:

A free career expo is being held Tuesday, March 8, for active duty military, their spouses and working-age veterans.

The job fair, sponsored by Military.com and the Non-Commissioned Officers Assn., will include at least 20 nationwide defense contractors or military-related companies including Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and the USAA insurance company, which provides financial services for active duty military, vets and their families.

Meredith Munger, a spokeswoman for the event, said the career fair specifically was targeted at active duty military, their spouses and vets because of the huge number of personnel who have left the service or will leave this year and need civilian jobs.

“We had 215,000 people leave the service last year nationwide and, with the war winding down, we expect twice that many this year,” she said. In San Diego alone, there are 54,000 active duty service members and about 32,000 spouses, 75% of whom are educated career professionals.

There are also a number of wounded warriors who may need special help to accommodate their injuries.

Job fair details:

  • When: Tuesday, March 8
  • Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Where: South Mesa Club, 202850 San Jacinto Rd., Camp Pendleton
  • Registration: Free on Military.com

Interviews will be conducted on site so job-seekers are advised to dress for business and bring a resume.

Employers who are members of any Chamber of Commerce who are looking for workers are invited to attend.  Chamber members will get a reduced registration fee of $300.  Register at Military.com and enter the registration code MM-300 to get the discounted fee.
