Tips To Keep You Safe On Wireless Networks

In recent years, wireless networking has become more available, affordable, and easy to use. Home users are adopting wireless technology in great numbers. If you have an open unsecure wireless network at your house you may be asking for trouble. You’ll never know who or when someone is piggybacking on your signal and what they’re downloading. The Computer Emergency Readiness Team recommends that you make your wireless network invisible to others by disabling the identifier broadcasting function that allows wireless access points to announce their presence. It also advises users to replace any default network names or passwords, since those are widely known, and to keep an eye on the manufacturer's website for security patches or updates.
