POEM: The Day Should Be Black

The day should be black
Bleak and grey
The sun should not shine
Trees should not sway

No smiling faces should be seen
Nor laughter should be heard
Just the heaviness of pain
Laying on our heart

Just like a forest after a fire
Blackened, charred pieces
Of what used to be life
Standing alone and dark

But no. Life does march on
The sun does still shine,
Clouds still do move
The wind chimes chime

Children laugh and play
People go to work
It doesn’t seem fair
With all of this hurt

But as snow slowly covers
The blackest of woods
Till all is covered
By layers of white

Freezing a moment
In dazzling beauty
White, ice and snow
Creating such tranquility

Then spring comes and brings
New life out of death
Till scars are hardly noticed
Though still they are there

Life will be renewed
Although it takes long
We’d like to go there now
And skip this sad time

Take this pain dear God from our heart
Relieve the pressure of our missing part
Remind us again of Your presence here
And how all along, you’ve always been near
